learn to laugh at yourself.

today in my reflections class, my peers shared stories from their times at clinical. we are in the semester of ob and pediatrics (currently the ob half). so far i have loved this semester. it has challenged more than any other semester and i am sure it will continue to challenge me. this afternoon in class, our professor was talking about shoulder presentations. and how sometimes with the infants born macrosomic sometimes have complications. sometimes the provider will need to break the infants clavical so the infant can pass through the pelvis. our instructor calls for a volunteer to demonstrate. no one said a word. it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. after a long day of classes i would rather volunteer than sit there in silence for one more minute.

lets just say, nursing school has caused me to loosen up more than i know/knew. as soon as i knew it i was on top of a table laying down in a lithotomy position. only to be stared at by 32 wonderful peers (who i consider more my family than peers now). then my instructor manipulates my legs to be in this position (only i got to keep my clothes on, haha):
i'm learning to laugh at myself more. i'm learning to not be embarrassed. i'm learning to be more assertive. the little p2 that i used to be only one semester ago would never volunteer to be a "pregnant mother" in front of the whole class. i'm learning to be more okay with who i am (personality wise as well as physically). i think that i am really developing into the person that i am supposed to be.
