i've been blessed.

i just had one of the best experiences at clinical. i just had to write about it.

so last week, i had two of the worst days at clinical. i got stuck with horrible nurses which would rather ignore me and run away then to sit for two minutes with me. i got my assignment yesterday. when i was told i had a labor patient, i had mixed feelings. i would see another baby born but the thought of spending 8 hours with a nurse who didnt want me there, didnt thrill me. i met my nurse she was amazing. she explained everything so well. took the time to go over fetal heart rate monitoring with me and even quizzed me (which i think i may have wowed her ;). i was able to help bring a beautiful baby boy into this world yesterday. i was able to teach the mother how to bottle feed. i was able to give the baby his vitamin k shot, hepatitis b vaccine, and the erythromycin eye ointment. i gave the baby his first bath. and did a full newborn assessment. and when i thought it couldnt get any better, in my last 10 minutes on the floor i was able to take out an IV.

when we met together for post conference. my instructor told me "adria, you have just about ODed on clinical experiences." she was right. i have been able to see 3 births. 1 c section. 2 vaginal deliveries. there are many people who have barely seen one birth. i consider myself extremely blessed.

i have my last day in labor and delivery today. i am kinda sad about that. i am really going to miss the nurses that i was able to learn from. and my clinical instructor, i couldnt have asked for anyone better.
