reflect.

the deeper and deeper i get into the nursing program, the more and more i have begun to dislike my part time job. i work at a department store as a sales associate. i do everything from stock to cashier to floor associate to training people. i have been so thankful to have that job. most 21 year olds cant say they have been at the same job for over 5 years.

here is the story: friday night i had my last clinical day in L&D. so our instructor asked us what each of us wanted to see on our last night. and i asked to spend my shift in the RNICU since in my pediatrics rotation i will not be getting NICU experience. i was able to hold and feed this little 4 lb 7 oz baby. seeing her smile was better than gold. i cant imagine the feelings that parents have when their little pot of gold has to spend months in the NICU. and they dont complain. thats how life is for them.

the next morning i had to work the job that i actually get paid for. for the entire 8 hours that i was there, i got yelled at by customers that this the sign said it was 50 cents cheaper and the coupon they had was expired and we were all out of the shirt that they wanted and all the ads at the doors where gone and there were no more coupons. i even had an associate who works for the same company but at another location give me a lecture about what their store does and how we need to be more like them.

by time i am done with my job, i am completely frustrated. these people would argue to the death for a credit worth a fraction of a dollar. i just want to scream saying "BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE." every week i work (at clinical) with people who have so much less than i do. i realize i take a lot of things for granted. i live so much better than so many people. i am truly blessed.

take time to reflect on all the blessings that you have. remember what is really important.
